WEST WINDSOR: 1,200 expected at annual event

WEST WINDSOR — An expected 1,200 cyclists from all over the eastern United States are expected at Mercer County Community College on Saturday, Aug. 6 for the 31st annual Princeton Bicycling Event, which offers rides of various lengths through the countryside around the Princeton and central New Jersey area.
Seven tours from 16 to 100 miles are available for all levels of experience, from beginners to expert riders. Anyone who rides a bicycle safely and wears an approved cycling helmet is welcome to participate.
Sponsored by the Princeton Free Wheelers since 1981, and supported by many area businesses, the rides begin and end at MCCC, 1200 Old Trenton Road (County Route 535), West Windsor.
Services include free parking, rest rooms, vendors and emergency help, and water and snack stops on all routes.
A post-ride lunch is included with the on-line registration fee of $30 ($10 for ages 16 and under). There is a bonus of a free T-shirt if you register by July 25.
”Advance registration is desirable, which speeds up the sign-in process,” said Pat Van Hise, Free Wheelers president. “Or you may register at MCCC on the day of the event.”
Previous participants have reported the event to be “consistent high quality,” “carefully planned and well thought out ride,” and “we had a blast.”
The bicycle club sponsors Saturday and Sunday rides in the Central Jersey area each weekend during the year and evening rides in the summer. Members receive The Freewheel, a monthly newsletter describing the rides, annual Spring Fling, fall picnic and other social events.
