AROUND CRANBURY: Fourth brings changes to events, programs

By Lorraine Sedor, Special Writer
The long holiday weekend has necessitated some changes to regularly scheduled events and programs around town.
The recycle shed will be closed Friday, July 1, but will be open Friday, July 8.
Located at 100 Dey Road, the hours are noon to 3 p.m.
The shed offers an easy and green way to dispose of e-waste, including all computer components, televisions, fax machines, electric cords (all types including computer, gaming, strands of lights, extension, etc.), printer cartridges, cell phones and mercury containing thermometers.
Other acceptable items include formed polystyrene and compact florescent bulbs. White goods (washers, dryers, refrigerators, window a/c units, dehumidifiers, etc.) and scrap metal (bikes, metal/aluminum lawn furniture, metal fence posts, etc) also will be accepted.
Microwave ovens, which cannot be recycled, are considered scrap metal.
Be aware personnel is limited and may not be available to help unload large items. If you are uncertain if an item can be recycled, call 395-0900, ext.229, prior to this scheduled date to ask questions.
This service is available for Cranbury residents only.
”Recent Painting, Travels — Far and Near” by Cranbury resident, artist and teacher Judy Buckley opens at the Gourgaud Gallery on Friday, July 8, with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Judy will be on hand to share and discuss her work at a reception that evening. Light refreshments will be served.
A beautiful variety of artwork will be for sale with 20 percent of each sale going to support the Cranbury Arts Council and its programs. Cash or a check made out to the Cranbury Arts Council is accepted as payment.
The exhibit will remain on display throughout July.
Tuesday, July 5, the town will celebrate Independence Day with a concert featuring the Mercer County Symphonic Band followed by a fireworks spectacular!
The performance begins at 6:30 p.m. at the gazebo in Village Park. Fireworks should begin around 9 p.m.
Everyone is invited to bring blankets and chairs, a picnic dinner (alcoholic beverages are not permitted) and, of course, your family and friends to enjoy this wonderful evening.
Due to limited parking spaces in the park, carpooling and street parking are strongly encouraged. Residents are encouraged to walk and are strongly urged to clean up during and after picnicking. Use the trash and recycling bins provided for your convenience.
The holiday celebration is co-sponsored by the Cranbury Historical and Preservation Society and the township. The rain date is July 6.
Looking ahead, the Cranbury Public Library will hold its third annual Libraryfest from 7 to 9 p.m..
And looking even farther ahead, mark your calendars now for the Historical Society’s house tour, “Journey through Time,” which will take place Oct. 15.
Ticket sales for the tour and the Friends of the Library luncheon will be on sale soon. For more information or to become involved, e-mail [email protected].
