Garden club to hear

   Thursday, Sept. 22 — Neshanic Garden Club meets at 9:45 a.m., with program at 11, at the Station House in Neshanic Station. Leslie Dempsey will speak on the care of houseplants, with a focus on “plant emergencies.”

Basket auction helps
fund charities
   Friday, Sept. 23 — The Woman’s Club of Hillsborough hosts a basket auction in the multi-purpose room at the township Municipal Building. Doors open at 6 p.m., auction at 7:30. A 50/50 raffle will benefit Gilda’s Club. $8 in advance, $10 at the door.
   Proceeds go to high school scholarships, community organizations, national charities and the township Social Services Department. Dessert and coffee will be served.

Firehouse hosts
outside flea market
   Saturday, Sept. 24 — A flea market will be held behind Volunteer Fire Co. No. 2 at 375 Rt. 206 starting at a.m. The firehouse is across from TD Bank and near Hillsborough Radiology.
   Flea market spaces are available for $15 each. Vendors can just show up that morning and pay then, no reservations needed.

Tea Party to hear
Congress candidate
   Wednesday, Sept. 28 — The Hillsborough Tea Party will hold its monthly meeting at the Christian Community Chapel, 211 Route 206, 7:30-9 p.m. David Larsen, president of Right Direction and a fiscal and social conservative running for Congress, will talk about how he plans to fight for an America with less government control.    Saturday, Oct. 1 — Clover Hill Reformed Church, 890 Amwell Road, will hold a pig roast with seatings at 4:45 and 6:15 p.m. only. Benefit the church building fund. YMCA swimmers
hold casino night
   Saturday, Oct. 1 — The Somerset Valley YMCA swim team will host “An Evening of Chance” night at the Three Bridges Firehouse, Main Street, from 7-11 p.m.
   The evening will feature black jack, craps, roulette, poker and a DJ, as well as a buffet dinner, dessert and a cash bar. All “winnings” will be converted into tickets to use at a basket auction with items donated by coaches, swimmers, families and local businesses.
   Tickets are $65 to anybody 21 years of age and older.

   Monday, Oct. 3 — Broadway actors will perform at a Theatre Night Gala, hosted by the Hillsborough High School Theatre program, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the school, 466 Raider Blvd. Tickets for the season’s bill, including “Titanic, A New Musical,” in March, will be on sale.    Wednesday, Oct. 12 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church will sponsor a Slavic dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. The cost is $12 for adults (ages 9 and older) and $5 for children (8 and younger) and includes all-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, salad, desert and beverage. UNICO will host
casino game night
   Saturday, Oct. 15 — The Hillsborough Chapter of UNICO will hold its second annual “Casino Night” from 7 to 11 p.m. at Royce Brook Country Club. Proceeds benefit needy families, charitable causes and chapter’s local scholarship fund to assist high school seniors in their continued education.
   Tickets at $75 include two beverages, wine or beer, and $50 in fake play money. Music by a local DJ, cocktail hour, dinner buffet, dessert table and casino gambling conducted by professional dealers.

Crafters, vendors
are sought for fair
   Saturday, Oct. 15 — Vendors, crafters and holistic enterprises will be featured at a vendors’ fair at the rear of the firehouse at 375 Route 206, near Hamilton Road.
   The fair supports Hillsborough volunteer firefighters.
   On sale will be companies’ and hand-crafted jewelry, embroidered items and clothes, home and garden products, interior decorating products, candles, gourmet food, baskets, pottery, glass, sports clubs services and make-up.

Garden club to learn
pruning techniques
   Thursday, Oct. 27 — The Neshanic Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at 9:45 a.m. at the Station House in Neshanic Station. At 11 a.m. “Pruning: Not a Mysterious Situation” will be presented by Bruce Crawford, director of Rutgers Gardens.
   He will give a hands-on demonstration of proper pruning techniques — bring clippers. Fall perennials and shrubs will be for sale. Lug your mug to a light luncheon at noon.

   Neshanic road closed — As of July 11, Main Road (River Road, County Route 567) between Amwell Road and Riverside Drive was closed by Somerset County to repair two bridges. The roadway is open to local traffic only.
   YMCA sign-ups — Fall program registration has begun for full privilege classes that run through Nov. 20. Visit www.ymcasomersetvalley.org.
   Alzheimer’s support group — The Alzheimer’s Association has a support group in Hillsborough. Family members and caregivers come together to share information and support in a safe, confidential atmosphere.
