A 22-year-old Lawrenceville man has been charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries after he allegedly struck three other vehicles and caused the third be pushed into a fourth vehicle.
Police said Moises Ortiz was charged with driving while intoxicated, knowingly leaving a scene of an accident with injuries, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, improper passing and driving without a license at 8:17 p.m. on Oct. 14 on Bayard Lane.
According to police reports, Mr. Ortiz was traveling southbound on Bayard Lane when he struck the vehicle in front of him, which led the vehicle to spin out of control. The driver became trapped inside and had to be extricated by Princeton Fire and Princeton First Aid. The driver had injuries to his hips and lower legs, according to police.
Police said Mr. Ortiz’s vehicle the continued southbound and hit another vehicle that was stopped in traffic. He then hit a third vehicle that was stopped, which pushed it into a fourth vehicle, according to police.
Police said Mr. Ortiz attempted to flee by driving over the west curb of Bayard Lane and hit a traffic sign and a tree.
They said he continued to drive and hit a traffic signal pole at the intersection of Bayard Lane and Stockton Street.
According to police, Mr. Ortiz and four others were taken to the University Medical Center at Princeton for medical treatment. Their identities and extent of injuries was not released by police.
Mr. Ortiz was later taken to the police station and bail was set at $25,000.
