ROBBINSVILLE — Police say a 50-year-old Ringoes man was shot several times on Union Street early Tuesday morning by two men who robbed him and fled in a black pickup truck.
Police did not release the name of the victim, but said his injuries were not considered life threatening. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center (formerly Helene Fuld), police said.
Lt. Mike Polaski said the shooting occurred at 6:45 a.m. near 1 Union St., a medical professional building near Washington Boulevard, and that the victim “worked in the area.” Police received several 911 calls reporting shots fired and found the victim lying in front of a nearby home at 4 Union St.
The victim told police two men robbed him of cash and then shot him as he tried to run away. Lt. Polaski declined to say how much cash was taken from the victim. At least one of the victim’s gunshot wounds was in his leg, police said.
Robbinsville police were at the crime scene Tuesday morning searching for shell casings to determine the type of weapon used in the shooting.
Lt. Polaski said that before the victim was transported to the hospital, he told police that one robber was black and the other Hispanic, and that they drove away in a black Ford Ranger. Lt. Polaski said police hoped to obtain a more detailed description of the suspects once the victim is up to being interviewed.
Anyone who witnessed the crime is asked to call the Robbinsville Police Department at 609-259-3900.
