LAMBERTVILLE — Lambertville wants to improve Cavallo Park with new playground equipment and an area for performances and gatherings.
Cavallo Park, off Mount Hope Street, is near the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park trail.
City Council introduced a $6,000 bond ordinance Tuesday night to fund a grant application to the state’s Green Acres program, Mayor David Del Vecchio said Wednesday.
Green Acres is an agency that works to preserve land as open space and put land to public recreational use.
Lambertville wants to move ahead with the grant application in the hope that Green Acres will contribute to the cost of the park improvements.
The proposed bond ordinance is expected to get a public hearing and be put to a council adoption vote at council’s next regularly scheduled meeting, on Feb. 20.
The mayor said the city is working on a plan for the park and will hold a public hearing on that plan soon.
ALSO at Tuesday’s meeting, the mayor said, council approved a resolution under which he and City Clerk Cindy Ege can sign an interlocal agreement with East and West Amwell townships on sharing animal control services. Municipalities often enter into such agreements to cut costs and improve efficiency.
— Also introduced were ordinances amending the city’s existing fire prevention and flood damage control ordinances. If adopted as expected Feb. 20, these amendments would put the language of those ordinances into conformity with state law, the mayor said.
— Also passed, the mayor said, was a resolution authorizing him to sign a contract with Otis Elevator for the maintenance of the elevator at City Hall.
— Another resolution authorizes the mayor to sign a contract with Magellan Hill for phone services for the city.
— In addition, a resolution was OK’d that authorizes awarding a contract, not to exceed $8,000, to JWS Computers Inc., for the purchase of Dell computers for the city.
— And, a resolution authorizing the mayor and Clerk Ege to sign a contract with John Munice for the administration of the city’s affordable housing units was approved.
