MANVILLE: Community calendar, week of Jan. 19

Sat., Jan. 21
    Vietnam memorial service: Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW 2290’s annual service begins at 10 a.m. at the post, 600 Washington Ave., Manville. The public is encouraged to join the VFW, its auxiliary and veterans to honor serving veterans and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam War.
    Rabies vaccination: A clinic for cats and dogs will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at firehouse No. 3 on North 8th Avenue. The shot gives three years of protection. Sponsored by Somerset County Health Department.
    Food drive: Christ the King Church Food for the Needy, with assistance from the Key Club of Manville High School, from 10-4 in the parking lot of Quik Chek, North Main Street and Brooks Boulevard. Proceeds benefit Manville families and the Food Bank of Somerset County.
    Requested are non-perishable items like canned tuna, fish, vegetables, pasta, pasta sauces, fruits, soups. Cereal and oatmeal, paper towels, toilet paper, soap, diapers and wipes. We will also collect gift cards to area stores, Quik-Chek, Walmart and Shop Rite, etc.
Tues. Jan. 24
    State of Union rally: The Hillsborough Democratic Organization will watch President Obama’s State of the Union address starting at 8 p.m. at Pizza and Pasta, South Main Street, Manville. Pizza and soft drinks for a suggested contribution of $10 per person or $15 per family. Other food and drink will be available. Sat., Jan. 28
    Pro wrestling: National Wrestling Superstars at VFW hall, 600 Washington Ave., at 7:35 p.m. in a benefit fundraiser for the Manville Cub and Boy Scouts Troop 193.
Sun., Jan. 29
    Spaghetti dinner: Sponsored by the Manville High School concert, jazz and marching bands. 1 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion, 429 S. Main St. Light entertainment during the meal. Adults will have chance at door prize; a 50-50 raffle will also be held. $8 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and children under 10.     Entertainment books: Books filled with coupons for local shopping, meals, travel to be used throughout 2012 are on sale for $30 at the senior center, 20 So. 3rd Ave.. 908-526-0175.
