Salvation Army will support U.S. troops
During this time of unrest in the world, I would like to assure the public The Salvation Army will continue its tradition of supporting our troops and their families, both here and abroad. Best known for the Donut Girls of World War II, The Salvation Army has played a part in every major war and military conflict in a variety of ways. Out of the limelight, Salvation Army chaplains have attended to the spiritual needs of our troops, visited hospitals and infirmaries, and provided emotional support.
I know all too well the burden families carry as their loved ones defend our country. I experienced it as my wife waited and prayed for my safe return from Vietnam.
The Salvation Army stands ready in New Jersey to provide counseling and services to the families of our troops as they protect our country on foreign soil.
The events of Sept. 11 have made us aware of our vulnerability. As the threat of terrorist activity in the United States heightens, the New Jersey Division of The Salvation Army prepares for the possibility of another act of terror. Readiness will be a key element, and we are doing all we can to be effective in case of emergency.
In closing, I would like all our service men and women to know The Salvation Army prays for your safe return from the Mideast, and also that you may depend on us to befriend your families in your absence. God bless you all.
