PLAINSBORO — The Township Committee unanimously ratified the union contracts for both the Patrolmen’s Benefit Association and the Superior Officer Association at its April 11 meeting.
Mayor Peter Cantu said the contracts are essentially the same, with the only difference being salary reductions and concessions in the Patrolmen’s Benefit Association, which went into effect in January.
The contracts include a 6-percent salary increase over a period of three years for both unions, with a 2-percent increase annually. The negotiated longevity payments will be reduced by 50 percent with new hires and tuition reimbursements will be eliminated entirely for new employees.
The unions also agreed to move to the state health benefits plan.
Mayor Cantu said this move would not only create substantial savings for the town, but also for the employees.
With all the contracts now using the state health benefits plan, Mayor Cantu estimated the township would save a couple hundred thousand dollars this year.
