BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP: Police seek pair accused of stealing safe from 81-year-old woman

   BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Police are looking for a man and woman who are accused of stealing a safety despot safe from the home of an 81-year-old woman of Laurel Avenue.
   At approximately 3 p.m. on April 16Bordentown Township police said the Laurel Avenue resident, who was not identified by name to the Register-News, was gardening outside her home when a man and woman approached her. Police stated that the man told the victim that he was a roofing contractor and that he was in the area to inspect possible faulty roof flanges. The resident then showed the him to the back yard to observe her roof.
   The victim told police that the man seemed quite knowledgeable in his remarks concerning the roof and pointed out a lifted flange near the chimney. Police said he then stated that he needed to check the area inside the house for possible leakage.
   The victim accompanied the man into the house and showed him to the second floor attic and closet area where the chimney was located, according to police. The victim then went downstairs and invited the woman into the residence due to extreme heat on that day.
   Police said the woman kept the victim occupied in the kitchen while her accomplice removed a black in color safe from a closet upstairs.
   The man then allegedly advised the 81-year-old that he did not detect any leakage on the second floor but the flange appeared as though it needed repair and promised to return on Saturday, April 21, to make the necessary repairs free of charge.
   Police said he victim then observed the two suspects leave the area in a newer model, mid-grey toned SUV that did not appear to have a front license plate.
   The victim described the safe as black in color with silver wear marks showing on the sides. The safe was valued at $200 and only contained personal documents and paperwork, police said.
   The victim described the man, between the ages of 35 to 40, to police as having an olive complexion, and possibly Hispanic, approximately 5-feet 10-inches tall with shaggy black hair. The woman suspect, approximately 45 to 50, was described as having an olive complexion, and possibly Hispanic or Italian, approximately 5-feet 6-inches tall with straight, shoulder length, black and grey hair. According to police the victim said that woman spoke broken English although she was unable to discern an accent.
