BUSINESS HIGHLIGHTS: Awards, events and don’t forget Mother’s Day

Congratulations are in order. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has recently awarded the distinguished Platinum EXCEL Award designation to the Human Resources Management Association of Princeton (HRMA) for its scope of work in 2011.
   HRMA is a significant resource to schools, non-profits and the business community in Princeton. Their work over the last year has included helping high school students in Ewing participate in their workforce readiness program, supporting Rider College students and students at the College of New Jersey who are interested in careers in human resources, assisting professionals who need retraining with their Careers In Transition program, and teaching courses in human resource management certification at Mercer County Community College to help local human resource professionals acquire or retain their credentials.
   The HRMA of Princeton is an affiliate of SHRM that serves the greater Princeton area. Although based in Princeton, their 220-plus members work for companies across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New York. HRMA of Princeton is a local resource for networking, information, professional development and continued support of excellence in Human Resources.

   Minds and Manners Preschool opens at the Rambling Pines Day Camp. Bonnie Martin, formerly of Hopewell Country Day School will be heading Minds and Manners which is located at the Country Day School’s former location in the classrooms of Rambling Pines on Route 518, just off Route 31 at the Hopewell/ East Amwell border.

Washington Elementary School students in Robbinsville recently heard from Roma Bank employees about the importance of saving as part of the ABA Education Foundation’s Teach Children to Save program.
   The Teach Children to Save program uses lessons that bring together real life and classroom learning, incorporating hands-on scenarios and children’s experiences to help them understand the basic principles of using money wisely.
   Lessons explore saving, budgeting, prioritizing and more.

   From May 1 to 31, Learning Express Toys of Hamilton is hosting a “My Favorite Teacher” contest.
   Children ages 6 to 13 who wish to recognize a remarkable teacher in their lives are asked to write a short essay explaining why they believe their teacher deserves the admirable title of “Favorite Teacher.” The child who writes the winning essay will win a $150 savings bond, and the teacher will win a $100 gift card to Learning Express Toys.
