Bear Tavern’s fifth annual Science Fair took place Friday, April 13.
It was Bear Tavern’s largest science fair to date with 132 registered participants and more than 60 community volunteers, including volunteer judges from The College of New Jersey.
Attendees saw a live animal show from the Academy of Natural Sciences and an educational Mad Science Show.
They also had the opportunity to make slime (Mad Science Group), extract DNA from strawberries (TCNJ biology honor society students), learn about fingerprinting (Hopewell Township Police Department), operate Lego robots (Timberlane Robotics Club), participate in a Family Fun Hands-On Science Experience (The Pennington School science department) and fly a virtual helicopter in 3-D (Continuum Dynamics).
Additional community sponsors providing goods and funding for the fair included the Hopewell Valley Education Foundation, Camp Invention, Huntington Learning Center, Money’s Worth Personabilia, Pennington Market, The Canopy Man (West Trenton Hardware), The Front Porch and the Thanapalasingam family.
The following were winners:
Fifth grade — First place: Katelyn McKillip. Second place: Gavin Nee and William Titus. Third place: Nicole Apai.
Fourth grade — First place: Gabriel LeFebvre and Riley Murphy. Second place: Nicholas Costanzo and Yezad Nakra. Third place: Sophia Orem. Honorable mentions: Annalyse Newton and Julita Thanapalasingam.
The following received recognition certificates for their poster board presentations:
