The Hopewell Valley League of Women Voters reminds residents of the upcoming deadlines for the June 5 primary election:
Deadline to register to vote, May 15.
Deadline to change voting address, May 15.
Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot by mail, May 29.
Deadline for an application to receive a primary election mail-in ballot by electronic means for qualified overseas civilian and military voter, June 1.
Deadline for obtaining a mail-in ballot application in person at the county clerk’s office, June 4, 3 p.m.
To register to vote in New Jersey, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by the date of the election and a resident of the county for at least 30 days.
You are not eligible to register to vote if you are serving a sentence, on parole or probation as a result of a conviction of an indictable offense under state or federal law.
Registration applications can be downloaded at www.njelections.org or picked up at libraries, Motor Vehicle agencies and municipal government offices.
In New Jersey, voters must vote the political party of their affiliation in primary elections. Those who have never been affiliated with a specific party may vote in the primary for candidates of any political party. Thereafter, the party of the candidates they selected will be the party of the voter’s affiliation, unless they change it by filing a political party affiliation declaration form.
The primary election is June 5. Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
