En Plein Air is a French expression which describes painting done outdoors in the open air and on location. It is one of the most spontaneous and challenging styles of painting that an artist can experience. Bordentown in summertime is a paradise for plein air artists. "We’re fortunate that Bordentown has much to offer and that it is drenched in fabulous light during July. Dramatic sunsets can be enjoyed from the Bordentown Beach or at Hilltop Park," added Vicki Gaudier, event coordinator. "Artists will be able to set up easels from dawn to dusk on each day of the event.
The "Open Call to Artists" by the Farnsworth Gallery is an invitation to all accomplished and aspiring artists of varying experience to come together for a few days of "Painting the Town" and to enjoy the outdoors in a scenic small town setting.
"We’re very fortunate that Bordentown City is rich in history while being a modern community. The area of the town is only about one square mile but it has charming residential neighborhoods showcasing many period architectural styles. Many historic private homes and public buildings can be found here such as the home of Francis Hopkinson a signer of the Declaration of Independence, the Clara Barton School House, and The Old City Hall with its landmark clock tower. The Gallery is within walking distance to the Delaware River and there’s a public access beach and boat ramp that may appeal to an artist for an impressionistic or contemporary original work of art," says Martha Press, owner/operator of the Farnsworth Gallery.
