The U.S. Small Business Administration is searching for outstanding New Jersey small-business owners and small-business advocates who will be honored during National Small Business Week next May.
According to James A. Kocsi, SBA New Jersey District director, nominations are being sought for New Jersey’s Small Business Person of the Year and for outstanding small-business advocates in the areas of minority, women, veteran, financial services, home-based business, and the Small Business Journalist of the Year. Special awards will be presented to a Small Business Exporter of the Year, a Young Entrepreneur of the Year, the Entrepreneurial Success Award — an entrepreneur who received assistance from the SBA and has developed his or her business into a large business — and a Family-Owned Business of the Year.
"Each year, the president designates a week to honor and recognize the achievements of the nation’s 23 million small-business owners," Kocsi said. "We are looking to individuals, local chambers of commerce, banks, trade associations and other community-based business organizations to submit nominations and sponsor candidates."

In a ceremony during the annual meeting of the American College of Dentists held recently in San Francisco, Robert A. Hersh, D.D.S., was granted a fellowship for his leadership and contributions to dentistry. Founded in 1920, the ACD honors dentists who have made significant contributions to the advancement of dentistry. Becoming an ACD Fellow is by invitation only, and fewer than 4 percent of dentists in the United States hold the title, according to a press release.
Dr. Hersh earned his bachelor’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University and his dental degree from Temple University School of Dentistry, Philadelphia. He completed a dental internship at Hackensack Hospital and received post-doctoral training in periodontics and oral medicine at Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dental Medicine. He serves as treasurer of the New Jersey Dental Association and is a member of the American Dental Association. He has served as president of the New Jersey Society of Periodontists, the Monmouth-Ocean County Dental Society, and the American Academy of Oral Medicine-New Jersey Section. He maintains a private practice limited to periodontics and implants in Freehold and is an attending dentist at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He is also a consultant to the New Jersey State Board of Dentistry. Dr. Hersh and his wife, Marcia, live in Freehold.
