Thomas Riccardo was granted approval Jan. 9 to add a 30-by-55-foot addition to a masonry building at 196 Route 206 South.
The Hillsborough Board of Adjustment okayed the application, with conditions to remove some pavement to increase open land on the site, as well as clean up the property.
Mr. Riccardo, who was in the pavement and excavating business known as Star Contracting, said he wanted to eliminate the paving portion of his business and go into servicing vehicles. He had seen a downturn in his paving and excavating business and wanted to turn to working on equipment, he said.
The board wanted all auto repairs to be performed inside, and junk cars and other debris removed. Tractor-trailers being parked there by a metals recycler would have to be moved.
