HILLSBOROUGH: Dukes offers special needs kids chances in football, cheering

The Hillsborough Dukes is launching its 46th year by offering free registration for all cheer and football programs for families registering before April 15.
The Dukes will also start a Challenger Division to bring the football and cheer experience to individuals with special needs. Pop Warner’s overall goals are to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. By establishing a Challenger Division, the Dukes feel they will provide that opportunity for everyone to participate in football and cheering. Both Challenger cheer and football programs are non-competitive and the football games are modeled after non-contact Pop Warner flag games.
From August through October, youth can get fit, learn proper technique, compete in eight games versus teams from surrounding communities, and work in a team environment to accomplish goals.
Online registration on www.hillsboroughdukes.com will be held in addition to in-person registration at the Hillsborough Municipal Building at 379 South Branch Road from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, in the side multi-purpose room, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 23, in the side multi-purpose room.
