Roosevelt School PTA wanted a unique T-shirt representing Manville to sell as a fundraiser.
Instead of the usual mustang (the school mascot) that always is featured, a new design of Manville was designed over the summer.
Little did anyone know the newly designed shirt would become a collector’s item of an icon of Manville. The shirt features the water tower that stood on North 9th Avenue for years until this week. Now that the water tower has been taken down, many already miss it, but now people can have a piece of Manville history all their own.
Local resident and artist Jeff Sanders, a Manville High School graduate in 1988, was approached by the PTA to design the shirt.
“The idea behind it was, essentially, it was just a landmark in the town,” he said. “It was about promoting the town, and the tower was something that was extremely visible at the time and something that has been around in town for 80 or 90 years.”
He said, “It seemed like a different perspective on everything other than just a horse. It was something more that everyone could relate to.”
Roosevelt PTA president Cheryl Petersen said, “We loved the design. It was different, and it brought that feeling of nostalgia.”
The proceeds from sales will benefit PTA-sponsored events and activities for the students.
You can order a T-shirt with the tower on a Colorado (light) blue background by emailing [email protected]. You will receive an email back with details of payment and pickup.
T-shirts are $10 and available in medium and large for youth and in small, medium, large, XL and XXL for adults.
Ms. Petersen said she had no idea the water tower was going to be taken down.
“Who would have that the shirt would end up being memorabilia now that the tower is down,” Ms. Petersen said.
