School board candidates must file by 4 p.m. June 4
By Ruth Luse, Managing Editor
This year’s primary election will be held June 4. Polls will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m.
Local would-be candidates for the Nov. 5 general election are:
— In West Amwell, Republican incumbent Zachary T. Rich, of Melody Drive, is the only candidate. No Democrat will be on the ballot as a candidate for the three-year term on the Township Committee. Unless June 4 produces a qualified write-in candidate, Mr. Rich probably will be the Nov. 5 winner.
— In Lambertville, no Republicans filed petitions In April for the two open three-year terms on City Council. However, incumbent Democrats Steven M. Stegman, of Studdiford Street, and Wardell Sanders, of Jefferson Street, did file. Unless June 4 produces qualified write-ins, the incumbents should be winners in November.
— In Stockton Borough, where two Borough Council seats (three-year terms) are open, only incumbent Democrat Timothy J. Nemeth, of Broad Street, filed his petition in April. The other open seat is held now by Democrat Michael Hagerty, who is not seeking re-election. No Republicans filed.
JUNE 4 also is the day when those who want to serve on one of the four local boards of education must file as candidates. The election will be held Nov. 5.
State law requires that all school-board nominating petitions for the November election must be filed with the Hunterdon County Clerk’s office, located in the Hall of Records at 71 Main St., Flemington, by 4 p.m. on June 4.
School-board nominating petitions for the November election cannot be returned to the local school district office.
In addition to normal business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., petitions may be filed today (May 30) until 7 p.m.; and June 1, between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
