SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Cops nab alleged scrap metal thief

Man tried to take aluminum ladders from Kendall Park home

Police charged a man they suspect was stealing scrap metal from a Kendall Park home May 2.
A Newman Road resident contacted police at 2:10 p.m. May 2 to report a man leaving her driveway with her husband’s aluminum ladders in the back of a truck.
Sgt. Jeff Russo later spotted the suspect, with the ladders hanging out of the truck, on Route 522, and pulled the vehicle over, according to police.
. After stopping the vehicle, the driver, Dylan Giannini, 22 was arrested and charged with taking the ladders.
An investigation determined Mr. Giannini had stolen the items to sell for scrap and was going to use the money to buy drugs, police said.
Police said they believe Giannini may be responsible for other scrap metal thefts in the area.
He was charged with theft and lodged at the Middlesex County Correction Center in North Brunswick in default of $7,500 bail, police said.
The vehicle he was driving was impounded, police said.
