PLAINSBORO — A routine stop for a traffic violation ultimately led to an East Windsor man assaulting three officers, resisting arrest and receiving multiple drug charges, police said.
Twenty-year-old Yoshua Werts-Galloway was initially pulled over on June 19 after allegedly making an illegal left turn on Maple Avenue around 5:06 p.m. When the responding officer approached Mr. Werts-Galloway’s 2012 Dodge Charger, he said he smelled marijuana and tried to take the keys so the car could be impounded pending an application for a search warrant.
Mr. Werts-Galloway allegedly refused to hand over the keys, assaulting three officers in the process, police officials said. Mr. Werts-Galloway was ultimately arrested on the charges of resisting arrest, aggravated assault on police officers and obstruction and was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center in default of $15,000 bail.
His car was impounded and towed to the police station, where police searched it the next day. Officials reported to have found marijuana packaged for distribution along with packaging material and a digital scale.
After Mr. Werts-Galloway was released from the county jail, police charged him with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was then taken back to the county jail in lieu of an additional $5,000 bail on the new charges.
