REGIONAL: Institute offering free training for professionals

   Training sessions addressing changes in healthcare laws and classes aimed at upgrading workforce skills will be offered free of charge at the Mercer Institute of Management and Technology Training at Mercer County Community College.
   Thanks to a partnership with the New Jersey Business and Industry Association and the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Mercer Institute will offer employers on-site training for employees in English as a second language, personal computer skills (focusing on Microsoft Office products) and communication skills. Training is available on a first-come, first served basis, and grant funding is limited.
   Mercer Institute will also offer three free training sessions geared toward healthcare professionals and organizations, entitled, “Readying the Workforce for Healthcare Transformation,” which addresses changes in healthcare law affecting electronic health records, personal health records and the international classification of diseases. The international classification of diseases overview will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11; the electronic health records overview will be Wednesday, Sept. 18; and the personal health records overview will be Wednesday, Sept. 25. All sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
   A third training session focuses on nonprofit organizations that work with individuals without health insurance or have inadequate health care coverage. This New Jersey FamilyCare session provides an overview of the changes in New Jersey’s publicly funded health insurance program. The training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, with additional sessions scheduled for Oct. 31, Nov. 21, and Dec. 13. The workshops are funded by the Affordable Care Act through the New Jersey Department of Health and Human Services.
