BRIDGEWATER, NEW JERSEY – The Daniel T. Liss Memorial Fund will be hosting their 4th annual “Torbethon” a 5K walk/run & family fun event on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at North Branch Park. The family event offers fun for everyone, including amazing raffles, music, food, clowns, petting zoo, face painting and lots of giveaways!
The Daniel T. Liss Memorial Fund is a legacy honoring the life of Dan Liss. Dan Liss, a Bridgewater-Raritan High School graduate and former champion wrestler, was an active member of his community. At the end of his junior year at Rider University, while studying abroad in Spain, Dan’s health began to decline. In May of 2010 Dan returned home and soon was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer, Ewings Sarcoma. After several rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, his condition quickly worsened. On August 10, 2010, Dan Liss passed away at the age of 22 years old. Today, under the guidance of his sister Jennifer McKay, the family continues honoring his legacy by helping those affected by cancer or terminal illness. The Daniel T. Liss Memorial Fund also supports organizations that provide vital services to cancer and terminally ill patients.
“Our family, and Dan, received an outpouring of support after his diagnosis and death and we wanted to pass that on,” explains McKay. “We live every day with losing Dan, but we want others to have that same support and love. Dan, even at the young age of 22, was selfless and cared so much about others. We want his legacy to continue and be there for others that need us. The pain from losing Dan never dulls, but knowing his name is still making a difference makes us proud.”
Registration for the walk/run is $25 per registrant. Registrants receive a Daniel Liss Memorial Fund tee shirt and $10 in raffle tickets. Anyone who pre-registers on the fund’s website, under ‘Events’, before September 1, 2013 also is entered to win a NOOK HD and will also be entitled to an additional $10 in raffle tickets.
All proceeds benefit the Daniel T. Liss Memorial Fund. Participants can register online or the day of the event.
