She leads team to its second victory
Senior Erica Barbuto of Hillsborough notched her first collegiate hat trick, scoring three goals to lift the Gettysburg (Pa.) College field hockey team to a 5-3 non-conference victory over York (Pa.) College on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at a sunny home Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium.
Gettysburg (2-0) never trailed after scoring the game’s first three goals.
Seniors Liz Baron (Basking Ridge) and Ashleigh Guise (Biglerville, Pa.) added two assists each for the Bullets, who held advantages in shots (23-13) and penalty corners (13-10).
Barbuto pushed Gettysburg up, 2-0, when she scored in front of the cage, converting a left baseline pass from Guise with 13:37 on the first-half clock.
In the second half, Barbuto gave her team some breathing room with back-to-back goals just 24 seconds apart. She scored off a corner with 18:25 left, when Baron redirected a corner pass from Guise. Barbuto then capped Gettysburg’s scoring when she dribbled around the defense from the left wing to make it a 5-2 game.
Gettysburg visits Cabrini College in another non-conference match-up Saturday at noon.
