Further snow days would shorten spring break in Edison schools

EDISON — The township’s school district built two snow days into its 2010- 11 calendar, but has used three.

The third snow day came on Jan. 27 after Mother Nature dropped upwards of another foot of snow on the region.

As a result, school will be in session on Presidents Day, Feb. 21, according to school Business Administrator Dan Michaud. If any additional school days are canceled due to inclement weather, students’ spring break, scheduled for April 18-22, will be shortened.

Further snow days would first result in the loss of Monday, April 18, as a day off, followed by Wednesday, April 20, and Thursday, April 21.

“If there has to be any more [makeup] days after that, it will be brought to the Board of Education to see if they want to take additional days that week,” he said, noting, however, that the board would not want to have school on Good Friday, which is April 22. “Or they may choose to add days to the end of the year. We’re hoping it doesn’t come to that.”

For now, he said, the board has only decided to set aside April 18, 20 and 21 as the next three makeup days, if needed.
