News from the senior citizen club
The Department of Public Works will have Superintendent John Kendzulak Jr. from Somerset County Recycling, County Sheriff Frank Provenzano and Manville Fire Inspector Pat Renaldi speak at the Senior Citizens’ next regular meeting Thursday, Oct. 10.
Seniors are invited to join a walking program, sponsored by the Recreation Department, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Manville High School. You can register at the Recreation Department or the Nutrition Center.
Nomination papers were given out for the election of 2014 officers at the September meeting. Nominations and voting will be held in November.
The senior citizens meet at 12:30 p.m. the second Thursday of each month at the VFW on Washington Avenue.
Residents of Manville age 50 and older are eligible for membership. Also, persons who do not remain residents of Manville are still eligible for membership. Dues for new members are $20, which includes 2014 dues and registration. The next regular meeting is today, Oct. 10.
Nick Trilone will be accepting 2014 dues of $10 for members.

Canned goods or nonperishable food items will continue to be collected before each meeting. Remember to bring one item per member to stock the Food Bank.
Blood pressure screening is held before the beginning of each meeting for members, starting at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets will be available for the Christmas party for Sunday, Dec. 8, at the VFW from 12:30 to 5pm. Tickets are $10 members and $25 for guests. A chart will be set up for seating arrangements; make sure you sign up.
Recreation Events
Tuesday, Dec. 3 “Miracle of Christmas” at Sight and Sound, Lancaster, Pa. The Christmas story comes to life with inspirational music. Price includes show, lunch at Shady Maple Smorgasbord and transportation. Cost is $110. Teens pay $60 and children $45. Contact Pat Zangaro for information at 908-722-6708. This trip is open to the public.
Tuesday, Dec. 31 New Year’s Eve Day celebration at the Royal Manor, Garfield. The trip includes family-style luncheon, show, one-hour open bar, dancing and comedian Marvin Bell.
The cost is $90. Full payment is due.

This is a New Year’s Eve afternoon party and everyone who attended last year thoroughly enjoyed it.
Atlantic City Normally run the second Wednesday of each month, the next trip to Showboat Casino is Oct. 9. The bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the VFW parking lot. The cost is $30 of which $25 will be returned. This trip is open to the public. Call Josephine Pschar at 908-722-0156.
