PLAINSBORO — A 60-year-old employee was exposed to a hazardous material at NRG Princeton Energy Center last week.
Less than 50 gallons of chlorine dioxide spilled at 3 Plainsboro Road on the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro campus at approximately 6:18 a.m. on Nov. 20. The only victim was a 60-year-old male from Bordentown who initially shut off the equipment that was causing the chemical to be released, according to the Plainsboro Police Department.
He was decontaminated and transported to the medical center by Plainsboro Township Emergency Medical Service. He was treated and released without any serious injuries, according to the police.
The spill was quickly contained, according to the police.
After the area was determined safe by Middlesex County Hazmat, the building and surrounding area were reopened, according to the police.
The Plainsboro Township Police Department, the Plainsboro Township Fire Department and the Plainsboro Township Emergency Medical Service responded to the spill.
Further assistance was needed from the Plainsboro Township Rescue Squad, the South Brunswick Emergency Medical Service, the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro Security Department, the NRG Energy management staff and the Middlesex County Hazmat Team.
