LAMBERTVILLE: Halloween began with parade on Sunday, ends this evening with trick or treating

Parade brings pageantry, awards

   On Oct. 27, children of all ages, creatures of all swamps, heroes from all planets, along with princesses of all lands, marched in the annual Lambertville Halloween Parade.
   For over 75 years, this parade has been made possible through the generous donations of area organizations and businesses, including: Lambertville Trading Co., Homestead Farm Market, Artcraft Shoe Service, Suplee, Clooney & Co., Sojourner, Manon Restaurant, Inn of the Hawk, Mitchell’s Café, Cifelli’s Sunoco, Lambertville Station, Michael Burns Architects, Eugene & Gail Albert, Siam Restaurant, Van Horn-McDonough Funeral Home, Walker’s Wine & Spirits, Lambertville House, CA Niece & Co., and Caffe Galleria.
   The following were awarded special prizes for their extreme costumes:
   Best in Parade — 6003 Monster Feast; Most Creative — 3005 Dentist and Patient; Best Representation of a Famous Person — 8007 Neil Armstrong; Best Representation of a Person Movies or TV— 8005 Baby Star Wars; Most Artistic — 4009 Peacock; Most Patriotic — 5018 Captain America; Best Homemade Costume — 5020 Rag Doll; Best Use of Recycled Materials — 9014 Bacon; Dot Kitchin Memorial Award — 3007 Garden Gnomes; Comic First Place — 9001 Evil Jack-in-the-box; Comic Second Place — 9016 Goat Keeper; Comic Third Place — 3018 Zombie Car & Parking Meter.

   All winners must claim their prizes by bringing their numbers to City Hall before Nov. 15. All participants are winners and “we appreciate the time you devoted to your costume and the parade,” said a spokesman.
   A special thank you to the coordinators for this year’s parade: Pam Baker, Sharon Burd, Mary Freedman, Muriel Meserve and Cheryl Pittore.
   NOTICE — Trick or Treating will take place from 6-8 p.m. today (Oct. 31).
   North Union Street will be closed to all traffic from York to Buttonwood streets from 5 until about 8:30 p.m.
   All cars parked on North Union Street prior to the start of Trick or Treating will be permitted to move only in the event of an emergency. Residents are strongly encouraged to move their vehicles prior to the street closure, because they may not be able to move cars for safety reasons, once Trick or Treating begins, according to Cynthia L. Ege, city clerk.
