Officer stops vehicle on Route 1

PLAINSBORO — Plainsboro police apprehended a man suspected of snatching a purse in the North Brunswick Walmart parking lot minutes earlier.
The North Brunswick police notified township police of the theft at 9:02 a.m. April 13 and provided a description of the suspect and his vehicle, which was last seen traveling south on Route 1, according to the Plainsboro police.
Plainsboro patrolman Adam Wurpel saw the suspect vehicle traveling south on Route 1 and stopped the tan 2001 Honda Civic sedan bearing an Illinois registration at Sayre Drive.
The driver, Angel Luis Rivera, 37, of Lorain, Ohio, reportedly had the stolen purse in his possession as well as stolen property from a theft in Pennsville, according to Plainsboro police.
Police said he also had hypodermic needles in the car, was driving with a suspended license and had outstanding warrants out of Penns Grove and Trenton.
Police charged him with numerous counts of receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was taken to the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center after he could not post $50,000 bail.
Court proceedings are pending.
