New York University men’s tennis player Steven Wu, a Hillsborough High School graduate, was one of 25 undergraduates honored with the school’s Student-Athlete Academic Achievement Award at a ceremony on May 6 at NYU’s Palladium Athletic Facility.
To earn the award, a student must be graduating with a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and have competed for a minimum of two years on an intercollegiate team.
A four-year team member, Wu served as a captain his senior year, compiling a 17-2 singles record. He reached the finals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional Singles Championship and was ranked as high as No. 2 in the region and No. 24 nationally. A two-time Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Week this season, his play helped lead NYU climb as high as No. 23 in the national poll.
Wu went 8-4 overall in competition as freshman. As a junior, he tied for the team lead in doubles wins (10) and tied for third in singles victories (9). As a sophomore, Wu went 15-2 in singles and 10-7 in doubles, winning all three of his matches at the University Athletic Association Championship.
A finance and actuarial science double-major in NYU’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, Wu was a three-time UAA All-Academic honoree.
