Congressional candidate Upendra Chivukula was in my opinion the best Democratic Candidate at the Congressional debate held in Princeton last week.
On jobs, I liked his idea of investing more in infrastructure and high-tech small business in New Jersey as a means of bringing more jobs to the state. It was an idea that no other candidate brought up, and one that I think can actually work. I wish the other candidates presented some ideas on bringing jobs to New Jersey other than the standard line that “we need more jobs” – sadly none of them did.
I agreed with him on several key issues, such as the need to invest in public education and his steadfast support for Obamacare, the latter of which drew loud applause from many in the crowd. His comment that “What Republicans don’t realize is that Obamacare is like toothpaste-once it is out of the tube you cannot put it back in” was awesome and drew some strong laughter and applause.
I also liked his willingness to consistently go after the Tea Party. He was smart and witty as he took down their disastrous policy ideas and mocked their shallow rhetoric. I know he’s been targeted by the NRA and the Tea Party, and I can understand why!
Chivukula definitely stood out at the debates. I plan to vote for him on June 3 and encourage fellow Democrats to do the same. I’d be proud to have him to represent me in Congress.
