SOUTH BRUNSWICK: Local mosque condemns Nigerian kidnapping

SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The Islamic mosque on Route 1 issued a statement this week, condemning the kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria.
"The Islamic Society of Central Jersey (ISCJ) strongly condemns the kidnapping of Nigerian schoolgirls by the terrorist group known as Boko Haram." The statement said. "This act is totally against every Islamic value and tradition."
The Boko Haram group took the girls from the school where they were boarding almost two months ago, according to published reports and is reportedly selling them as wives for $10 each.
In another development, the group sent out a video showing the girls in traditional Islamic attire and reading from the Quran.
"It is simply a horrific crime," the statement said. "We urge the Nigerian government to find these schoolgirls as soon as possible and bring the captors to justice. Our prayers are with the victims and their loved ones."
Local Muslims are speaking out on the issue and do not want to be connected to the views of this group.
"We speak as Muslims, as Americans and as human beings who are committed to peace and democracy," the statement concluded.
First Lady Michele Obama used one of her husband’s recent Saturday radio addresses to express her concerns and the concerns of the nation regarding the incident and said that, as a parent of two daughters, she can relate to the horror the situation is causing within those families.
