MONTGOMERY — Someone broke into 13 cars in the Montgomery Woods development between June 25 and 26, according to a Police Department press release.
The release said a 2011 Kia Sorrento and a 2001 PT Cruiser, which had keys left inside, were stolen.
Capt. James Curry said the PT Cruiser was recovered around 3 p.m. on the 26th about two miles away on Woods Edge Park off of Cherry Valley Road.
As of Monday afternoon, the Kia had not been recovered, he said.
Residents also said the thief or thieves had taken money, credit cards, GPS units, a laptop and sunglasses from their vehicles.
None of these items have been recovered, said Capt. Curry.
The residents lived throughout the development on Chicopee Drive, Melrose Road, Chestnut Court, Watertown Court and Northwood Court, said the press release.
The thefts most likely started after 10 p.m. on the 25th and police began receiving calls about the break-ins around 5 a.m. on the 26th, he said.
Capt. Curry said the investigation is ongoing and police will continue to look for the missing items and the suspect or suspects.
Once in a while a neighborhood will have multiple burglaries, he said, most frequently unlocked vehicles will be targeted.
"While it is rare to have a stolen vehicle," he said, "it does happen."
The police urge people to lock their cars, not only at night but also during the day, and report any suspicious activity, said Capt. Curry.
