The township’s annual Fish Derby on July 4 had 100 children participate.
With the parents and other family and community members in attendance, there were over 300 people at Northern Community Park for the derby.
This year there was one winning category, “Largest Fish Caught,” but there were several winners.
The winners who received trophies were Zander Gorlin, who caught a 22-inch fish; Michael Bisceglie, who caught a 12-inch fish; Amberlyn Wilson, who caught an 11-inch fish; Ryan Scheaf, who caught a 10.5-inch fish; and Emily Klena who caught a 9.5-inch fish.
Every child who participated received a green ribbon from the township and a certificate presented by the Mercer County Angler Association.
Many children also won gift certificates donated from Sportsmen Center and rods donated from the Mercer County Angler Association.
Ron Jacobson from the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Hackettstown Fish Hatchery was on site to teach the children about fishing and stocked the pond that day.
