David F. Marsh
Mr. Marsh, 78, of Cream Ridge, died June 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Bristol, Pa., he had been a resident of Cream Ridge for 36 years. Before his retirement, Mr. Marsh was employed at Trenton Sheet Metal for 28 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and was a private pilot, known as “Topgun.” He was also a NASCAR modified stock car driver. Mr. Marsh was predeceased by a brother, William. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda; a daughter and son-in-law, Danalyn and Timothy Byrne of New Egypt; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Cindy Marsh of St. Charles, Mo.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lee and Dot Marsh of Hamilton, and Richard and Teri Marsh of Las Vegas; his mother-in-law, Marian Gaum of Waretown; a brother- and sister-in-law, Ryan and Sandy Gaum of Cream Ridge; five grandchildren; six nieces; one nephew; and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Peppler Funeral Home, Allentown, with the Rev. Merton Steelman officiating. Interment followed at Emley’s Hill Cemetery, Cream Ridge. George W. Garo
Mr. Garo, 77, of Howell, died June 13 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Thune, Switzerland, he came to the United States in 1954, settling in the Tottenville section of Staten Island, N.Y., before moving to Howell in 1964. Before his retirement, Mr. Garo was a structural safety engineer for Public Service Mutual of New York for more than 33 years. He was a veteran of the Grenadier Swiss Army. He received his degree in engineering from New York University, New York City. Mr. Garo was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers, Chapter 182 of New Jersey. He had been a charter member of the Howell Police Department since before the formation of the full-time Howell police force, and was a part-time Class II police officer for the department. He was a past master mason at the Humboldt Lodge No. 512 Free & Accepted Masons, New York, and a member of the Olive Branch No. 16 Lodge, Freehold, and a past patron of the Molly Pitcher Lodge Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the BMW Motorcycle Club Worldwide and a member of the Blue Knits of New Jersey. Mr. Garo is survived by his wife, Tania Solenko Garo; a daughter, Randy Lee Garo of Tucson, Ariz.; adopted children Natasha and George Brick of Jackson; adopted grandchildren Walter and Elena Brick of Jackson; many cousins in Switzerland; and good friend Robert Browne of Howell. The funeral service was held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, followed by interment at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Sharon S. Culkin
Mrs. Culkin, 42, of Manalapan, died June 16. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived there before moving to Manalapan 12 years ago. Mrs. Culkin was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Manalapan. Surviving are her husband, Walter; her children, Courtney, Walter, Nicolette and Michael, all at home; her parents, Fred and Josie Melero of Manalapan; and two sisters, Jean Castaldi of Freehold and Renee Melero of Arizona. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, followed by interment at Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick. The Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.
