MANVILLE: VFW to hold family picnic Saturday

Family picnic: The Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold its sixth annual picnic, noon-5 p.m. at Post 2290 on Washington Avenue. There will be face painting, games, a horseshoe tournament and music and entertainment by a DJ.
Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $7.50 for kids 6-12 and under 6 are free. Call 908-725-2290. On day of picnic the cost is $20 for adults and $7.50 for kids. If it rains, the event be moved indoors.

School board: Board of Education meeting, ABIS media center. 7 p.m.

‘Sneak peek’ at schools: Community members, parents and students are invited to visit school of their choice, noon to 4 p.m. No formal program. Students must be accompanied by an adult. New student orientation will be held that day; invitations to new students will be forwarded by each school.
Sun., Sept. 7
Church festival: Holy Ghost Orthodox Church on closure of Rooseveltfor their annual ethnic food festival. The street will be closed between 6thand 7th avenues.
Wed., Sept. 10
Slavic dinner: St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and under). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kielbasa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Orders to go available. Meeting date moved: The Millstone-Raritan Rivers Flood Control Commission meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 24, has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. in Manville Borough Hall.

Farm market: Friday afternoons until Sept. 26, rain or shine, from 1 to 6 p.m. on Main Street sidewalks between Rosalie and North Orchard streets. Fresh foods, fruits and vegetables. For information about the market, interested participants can contact Oscar Gonzalez at 908-722-0121.
Summer swimming: Community pools are open for the summer. Season tags on sale. $20 for seniors ages 50 and older, $35 for adults (15 and older), $35 for children ages 4-14 (they need to be accompanied by an adult), free for children younger than 3. Teens need to show proof of age by a birth certificate.
Bulk trash pickup: Next collection is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 26.
