Chamber president details organization’s good works

Your article in last week’s Sentinel needs to be addressed. For the last 15 years, the Edison Chamber of Commerce has held its “State of the Town” dinner, wherein the mayor addresses the business community and advises of his accomplishments and vision for the future.

The Edison Chamber is a nonprofit organization, which is not subsidized by the township nor any other organization. We exist because of our dues-paying members and the fund-raising events we hold.

The funds raised from these events enable us to spread exceptional good will in Edison.

For example, we have provided dictionaries to every third-grade student in Edison (public and private schools), have provided tutors for middle school students in both reading and math, assisted fire victims with hotel bills, for the last five years provided a full year’s scholarship to an Edison resident at Middlesex County College, held Business Education Week for the last 12 years, and recognized community leaders and Educator of the Year.

Most recently, we have greeted new Edison residents with a “Welcome to Edison” basket, which contains information about Edison, important phone numbers and voter registration information. The chamber has also provided food to the St. James and Community Presbyterian Food Pantries.

We hold fund-raisers, of which the State of the Town address is one, to assist our fellow Edison residents.

The business community wants a strong partnership with the schools so that we have an enthusiastic, prepared, well-qualified and super skilled workforce.

Everyone is welcome to any and all of our events; however, there is a charge, which will help ensure that we can continue to do the good work we do. We ask you to support our mission.

The Edison Chamber is dedicated to assist new and existing businesses, while promoting programs of a civic, social and cultural nature, which is the heart of our community.
