MONTGOMERY — A memorial service will be held for John and Joyce Sheridan Tuesday, Oct. 7.
The family will receive visitors in the Patriots Theatre at the War Memorial in Trenton from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. The service will begin at 11 a.m. A private funeral is planned.
John Sheridan Jr., 72, died at home while his wife, Joyce, 69, died at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro after a fire broke out in the bedroom of their home in the Skillman section of Montgomery before 6 a.m. on Sept. 28.
While officials have determined that the fire was intentionally set, the CAESE AND circumstances surrounding the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Sheridan remain an active and ongoing investigation with laboratory results still pending, according to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.
Mr. Sheridan was the CEO of Cooper Health System and had a long career in the public and private sectors, including a stint as assistant counsel to Gov. William T. Cahill, state commissioner of transportation under Gov. Thomas Kean, and a member of Gov. Christie’s transition team. He graduated from St. Peter’s College and Rutgers University Law School, according to Cooper. He worked at Cooper beginning in 2005 as a senior executive vice president, eventually rising to the top job in 2008. Outside of work, he served on various boards, including Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey, according to Cooper.
Mrs. Sheridan was a retired teacher from the South Brunswick School District.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to organizations that were an important part of their life and that embody their lifelong commitment to helping others in need — the Joubert Syndrome Foundation at www.jsrdf.org, The Cooper Foundation at http://foundation.cooperhealth.org/ways-to-give/make-a-donation, or The Carrier Clinic at www.carrierclinic.org/giveagift.php#tips.
