Mechanical problems caused the Dinky to stop running Sunday and again Monday, as rail riders were offered substitute bus service to get to and from Princeton Junction.
The equipment-related problems are being investigated, said NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder on Monday.
The service disruption comes in the same week in which Princeton University plans a formal unveiling of the new train station that it built. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for Tuesday at 1:15 p.m.
State, university, NJ Transit and local officials are expected.
The train station is a piece of the $330 million arts and transit project the university is developing in that part of town. Other elements include campus buildings.
Councilwoman Jo S. Butler, who voted against the zoning changes the university sought for the project, said Monday that she was invited the ceremony and planned to attend.
