Deonia Brown, 33, of Neptune, has been charged with engaging in prostitution after a police officer, who was pro-actively checking a website that offers personal services, recognized her photograph on the website from prior investigations, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
The police officer, who was conducting “pro-active intelligence gathering” for Lawrence Township by checking the website, saw some possible criminal activity in connection with the posting on the website, said police Lt. Joseph Amodio.
The police officer continued his investigation and discovered she had outstanding warrants from several towns, Lt. Amodio said. He knew that she was staying at the Howard Johnson’s Motor Lodge and he went to the Brunswick Pike motel to arrest her on March 3.
The officer went to the motel room and knocked on the door to arrest her for the outstanding warrants, Lt. Amodio said. When she opened the door, the police officer noticed condoms in the room and she acknowledged that she accepted money for sex.
Ms. Brown was released after posting bail of $500 with the 10 percent option on the Lawrence Township charge before being released to the Perth Amboy police on an outstanding warrant. She also had warrants from Cranford, Metuchen, Ocean Township, Toms River Township and Jackson Township.
