Hopewell Valley Regional School District and Safe Kids America are partnering to present a free class for parents and the community on Tuesday (March 10) at the Hopewell Valley Performing Arts Center at Central High School at 7:30 p.m.
“Internet and Smartphone Safety: A Parent’s Guide to Social Media Apps and Smartphone Safety” is a one-hour information session designed to educate attendees about the potential dangers of certain smartphone applications (apps) and Internet practices.
Attendees will get information about how teens jailbreak cell phones, download third-party social media apps that allow for discreet communications and use technology in ways that may expose them to online predators or cyber-bullying.
Parents and community members also will learn common tech lingo and catch up on where smartphone and Internet technology are heading.
Additionally, there will be discussion on how Hopewell Valley schools embrace technology while keeping Internet safety practices a priority.
The class presenter is Chad Williams, founder of Safe Kids America, Inc. Mr. Williams is the community outreach deputy for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in Grand Junction, Colorado, and a national speaker on emerging drugs and other threats to teens.
Douglas Brower, K-12 supervisor of educational technology for the Hopewell Valley Regional School District, will assist in the presentation and will be available to answer questions.
