A Jersey City man and a Hamilton Township woman have been charged with shoplifting in connection with the theft of an assortment of items, valued at $3,164, from Sears at the Quaker Bridge Mall at 1:58 p.m. March 28, according to police Lt. Joseph Amodio.
Elsayed Elfeky, 61, of Jersey City, and Wesamwah Eidy, 41, of Hamilton Township were both charged with shoplifting. Ms. Eidy was also charged with aggravated assault, credit card theft, possession of a hypodermic needle, escape and criminal mischief, Lt. Amodio said.
A Sears loss prevention officer observed Ms. Eidy pushing a shopping cart through the store and loading it up with items without looking at the price tags, Lt. Amodio said. She went to the cash register and paid for some items, but not others. She also picked up a suitcase and loaded it with more merchandise for which she did not pay.
Outside of the store, Mr. Elfeky was observed loading a minivan with a plastic bag full of merchandise, Lt. Amodio said. Both Mr. Elfedy and Ms. Eidy were taken into custody for shoplifting and escorted to the store’s loss prevention office.
While she was secured to a bench in the loss prevention office, Ms. Eidy attempted to use a pin to undo the handcuffs, Lt. Amodio said. When a police officer tried to take the pin away from her, she scratched his hand and wrist. As she was being escorted to a patrol car, she spit on another police officer.
Mr. Elfeky was released, but Ms. Eidy was taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center on $50,000 bail.
