PRINCETON: Man who hit pedestrian faces reckless driving charges

The 20-year-old Princeton resident who struck a graduate student with his car on Washington Road on April 8 has been charged with reckless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Steven Cruz, of Manor Drive, was travelling southbound on Washington Road approaching the area of the marked crosswalk just south of Ivy Lane at approximately 9:32 p.m. when he hit Princeton University graduate student Nyssa Emerson, 25, of Oviedo, Florida, with his Toyota Prius, according to Princeton police.
Police said Tuesday that Ms. Emerson, who suffered extensive injuries, remains hospitalized in stable but guarded condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.
At the time of the collision it was raining lightly and the roadway was wet, police said.
The Toyota Prius had front end and windshield damage and it was towed from the scene by Stewart’s Towing, according to police.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Collision Response Team assisted with the investigation, which is being conducted by patrolman Marshall Provost.
