Boy Scouts will raise money 
for Swiss trip by washing cars 

Sat., June 27 — Troop 1776 Venture Patrol is holding a
car wash fundraiser at Hillsborough Elementary School, corner
of Route 206 and Amwell Road, from 9 a m. to 3 p.m. to help
the patrol fund a backpacking trip to Switzerland in July. $5 for
cars and $7 trucks or vans. 

Job seekers will be encouraged 
to tell their story of being a ‘hero’ 

Wed., July 1 — Career search counselor John Hadley will
discuss “How to Use Storytelling to Get Hired” to encourage
job seekers who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a
career change at a support group program sponsored by the
Jewish Family Service of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren
Counties from 7-9 p.m. at its offices at 150-A West High St.,
Somerville.
Mr. Hadley will show how to tell a “hero” story in a man´
ner that’s interesting, that flows and shows the progression in a
career, and steers the interviewer to ask follow-up questions
that will advance a candidacy.
This group is offered free of charge and is open to the en´
tire community. Funding for this program is provided by grants
from United Way of Hunterdon County and Magyar Bank. To

County’s fireworks display 
goes off at North Branch Park 

Sat., July 4 — Somerset County Park Commission’s annu´
al July 4th fireworks display will be held at 9:30 p.m. at North
Branch Park, Milltown Road, Bridgewater. The event is spon´
sored by the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders,
who generously donated the funds. Due to budget constraints,
this event is a fireworks display only. Visitors should bring
lawn chairs or blankets. Picnic baskets are allowed, but alcohol
is prohibited.
North Branch Park gates will open at 6 p.m. Milltown Road
will be closed at about 9 p.m. and remains closed for up to one
hour at the conclusion of the fireworks. 
St. Mary’s Catholic Church 
holds monthly Slavic dinner 

Wed., July 8 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds
its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900
Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children
(8 and younger). All-you-can-eat pirohi, stuffed cabbage, kiel´
basa and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes. A surprise entrée will be
prepared by St. Mary’s chef John Pagano. Orders to go avail´

the second Wednesday of every month. 

GOP says ‘save the date’ 
for Royce Brook golf outing 

Mon., July 13 — Hillsborough GOP will hold a golf out´
ing at Royce Brook Golf Course on Hamilton Road. Check-in
and lunch at 11:30 a.m., with a 1 p.m. scramble start. Dinner
will follow golf. $200 for greens fees, cart, beverage cart,
lunch and 6 p.m. dinner (with one-hour open bar). Dinner only
for $65. Music by local band Tastes Like Chicken. Direct ques´

VFW meetings: Monthly meetings of Hillsborough VFW
Post 8371 are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30
p.m. in the county nutrition center, 339 South Branch Road.
The post’s mission is to honor and help other veterans. All vet´
erans with foreign service are welcome. For information about

Coping with addiction — Parents of Addicted Children
helps parents understand and cope with drug problems they are
facing, and will face, with their children. Meets first and third
Monday of the month, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Neshanic Reformed
Church, 715 Amwell Road.
Divorce support group — A nondenominational support
group to help separated and divorced people to a new begin´
ning. The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of the
month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Hillsborough Presbyterian
Church, Route 206 at Homestead Road. Call 908-295-6740. 
