Sat., July 25 — Help pack boxes of goodies for U.S. troops deployed overseas. Join manager emeritus Sparky Lyle, manager Brett Jodie and the Somerset Patriots at TD Bank Ballpark, Bridgewater, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. All Operation Shoebox New Jersey volunteers will receive a free ticket to a Patriots game. GiGi’s Playhouse to unveil windows featuring joyful faces 
Sun., July 26 — GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Center will host a party to unveil its featured window display from 2-6 p.m. at Town Center II, 409 Route 206. The windows feature the joyful faces of Playhouse participants, with the center panel featuring the top three First Year Friends Fundraisers.

Sacred Heart Parish festival features food, rides, games 
July 28-Aug. 1 — Christ the Redeemer parish annual festival on the Sacred Heart church grounds on South 2nd Street, Manville, features pierogis, potato pancakes, kielbasa and ethnic food. Games and raffles, kids’ rides, cake and candy stands, 50-50 every night and super cash raffle on Saturday. Polish night is Wednesday, with DJ Jerry, the one-man polka band. High school basketball raises money on golf links 
Thurs., July 30 — 11th annual Hillsborough High School basketball golf outing fundraiser, on the west course of Royce Brook Country Club, 201 Hamilton Road. Shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:30. Individual and team prizes. Modified scramble format. $130 includes dinner, greens fee, cart and prizes. $50 for dinner only. Township family campout, fishing derby are scheduled 
Fri., July 31 — Pitch a tent in Ann Van Middlesworth Park with your family for an evening under the stars in the annual family campout night. Activities will include fishing, kickball games, a night hike, and, of course, a campfire. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and breakfast at 7 a.m. Campout only fee is $5 per person. Campout with dinner is $10 per person.
From 5-7 p.m., the David L. Thomas Memorial Fishing Derby will be held. Children ages 14 and younger (accompanied by an adult) can cast a line and try to catch the biggest fish in the pond at the park. Fishing derby fee is $4 per child.
For fishing and campout, advance registration is required through the Parks & Recreation Department. 
5-K footrace remembers former Raider runner Walton 
Sun., Aug. 2 — Jason’s Memorial 5-K run in memory of Jason Walton, a New Jersey state champion runner from Hillsborough High School who died in 2008. 9 a.m., Hillsborough High School. 466 Raider Blvd. Registration and packet pick-up at 7:30 a.m.; race starts at 9. Proceeds go to a $500 track scholarship to the first male and female to cross the finish line. 
Job seekers encouraged to learn how to find job
Wed., Aug. 5 — Jewish Family Services will host a talk in a program for job seekers who are unemployed, underemployed or seeking a career change from 7-9 p.m. at JFS offices at 150-A West High St., Somerville.
“Finding and Creating Job Openings” will be presented by Peter Hercky, principal at Hercky Pasqua Herman. He has taught interviewing skills for seven years and has counseled students in obtaining internships and paid positions.

Purple Heart ceremony honors war’s injured, killed 
Thurs., Aug. 6 — The annual Purple Heart remembrance ceremony for those killed or injured in combat will be held at 6 p.m., rain or shine, at the Garden of Honor on the grounds on the municipal complex on South Branch Road.
At the first such ceremony in 2012, a Purple Heart monument was dedicated to the township by Chapter 27 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Steps Together benefits from attending ball game
Sun. Aug. 9 — Steps Together, a township nonprofit dedicated to supporting families facing a medical crisis, will benefit from ticket sales to the Somerset Patriots game against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Rotary Club schedules its annual carnival, fair
Aug. 11-16 — The eighth annual Hillsborough Rotary Fair will run Tuesday through Sunday at the township field adjacent to the Lowe’s Hillsborough Promenade (315 Route 206).
Fair proceeds go directly to support Hillsborough community organizations and projects.
The fair will feature 21 rides, amusement games, a DJ, food, displays by area vendors and a petting zoo. There will be nightly entertainment and demonstrations. The 101.5-FM New Jersey radio station host, Ray “The Prize Guy,“ will appear at the fair on Friday night, which is also fireworks night. 
St. Mary’s Catholic Church holds monthly Slavic dinner 
Wed., Aug. 12 — St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church holds its monthly dinner, 4 to 7 p.m., St. Mary Parish Center, 1900 Brooks Blvd. $13 for adults (ages 9 and up) and $5 for children (8 and younger).
