Somerset County sheriff’s officers discovered drugs and arrested two people Sept. 3 at a home in Manville.
An investigation by sheriff’s detectives Giacomo Crismale, Frank Figel and Peter Kocsi uncovered what authorities call a “substantial” drug operation of suspected marijuana, heroin and drug paraphernalia at the residence. They arrested Bryan Ziccardi, 34, and Kevin Baron, 38, who both live at the house.
The sheriff’s officers were initially attempting to arrest Mr. Ziccardi on a bench warrant at his residence. When the officers knocked at the door, Mr. Baron answered and led the officers to Mr. Ziccardi, who was sleeping on the floor in a spare bedroom, police said. The sheriff said detectives saw what appeared to be drug paraphernalia and drugs in plain view. They applied for a search warrant and soon after searched the premises and said they found syringes, pill bottles, containers, packaging materials and suspected illegal drugs.
Mr. Ziccardi and Mr. Baron were processed at the sheriff’s office in Somerville and charged with third-degree possession with intent to distribute, third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin), possession of drug paraphernalia and possession/distribution of hypodermic syringes.
Mr. Ziccardi’s bail was set at $20,000 full cash or bond and Mr. Baron’s bail was set at $10,000 with 10 percent. Both were remanded to the Somerset County Jail pending a court hearing.
