Debris from the AvalonBay construction site will not be hauled away starting Monday, as the company needs to get approval from environmental regulators in Pennsylvania where the material will be disposed of, a municipal official said Friday.
Some 50,000 tons of material, eventually, will be taken to a disposal facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. But AvalonBay is waiting for the Department of Environmental Protection in that state to grant the approval, Princeton engineer Robert V. Kiser said.
The company has also indicated to the town that it hauling may occur on weekends too and may not stop after 2 p.m., the town said.
Tests on debris from the site found the presence of chemicals and metals. Some 30 dump trucks will haul the debris, with each truck making three trips a day each, the town has said. The job will last into November.
AvalonBay is constructing a 280-unit residential development at the site of the former Princeton Hospital.
