To the editor:
This year it’s more critical than ever to get to the polls on Election Day to support your local incumbent candidates.
Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette and Committeeman Carl Suraci have clearly earned the right to be re-elected, as have Assembly members Jack Ciattarelli and Donna Simon. They need our votes.
Mr. Burchette, who has built a successful business, was elected to the Township Committee three years ago because his approach would be consistent with the existing members of the committee. He has not disappointed in governing with this approach. Mr. Suraci, with his many years of experience in local government, and a particular strength in fiscal responsibility, has a record that speaks for itself.
Both Greg and Carl realize that the goal isn’t to repeatedly make headlines with shiny new programs that may help a few folks here and a few folks there, and then explain how they can find the tax money to pay for them.
They realize the goal is to ensure the essential needs of Hillsborough’s residents are met, and the essential services from the township are provided, in the most efficient way possible.
While we may be eight years removed from the economic collapse and the stock market has rebounded, the national economy is limping along, growing at a snail’s pace, forcing millions of Americans to give up looking for jobs and leave the workforce. This has impacted local tax revenue, as well as revenue the township receives from the state, which only makes it more critical to continue the prudent fiscally responsible management of our town, which Mr. Burchette and Mr. Suraci have done so effectively.
In the 16th District of our State Assembly, Jack Ciattarelli, who lives right here in Hillsborough, and Donna Simon have also represented us in a fiscally conservative way on the state level, and are up for re-election and deserve our vote.
With district populations re-drawn in recent years, re-election on the district level is no sure thing, which makes it more critical for us to come out and support Jack and Donna.
Without a presidential, congressional or gubernatorial race this year, even lower turnout than usual is expected. This is why it is so important that we come out to support Greg, Carl, Jack and Donna. Please join me for 15 minutes on Election Day to give them our votes.
