LB 1.27 Students bring cheer, toys to patients

LONG BRANCH — More than 20 students from Trinity Hall, an all-girls high school in the Catholic tradition in Middletown Township, visited Monmouth Medical Center to spread holiday cheer and deliver toys to patients in The Unterberg Children’s Hospital as part of their “Christmas Cheer for All to Hear” service project.

During their visit, the students were greeted by Monmouth Medical Center staff, including Meg Fisher, M.D., chair of the Department of Pediatrics and medical director of The Unterberg Children’s Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, and pet therapy dogs from The Freed Pet Therapy Program.

The project, created and planned by students in freshman theology classes to meet the needs of the local community, was part of the students’ final assessment in the course. In addition to designing the project, students presented the idea to fellow classmates who then evaluated all proposed projects, with one project chosen to be completed the following school year with the support of Trinity Halls’ entire student body and faculty members.

The students presented their project dressed as Santa and his elves and shared information about children in the hospital and the financial drain this may cause families. Additionally, the students filmed a short video to further emphasize their message.

“These young women are to be commended for their hard work — Monmouth Medical Center and our patients truly appreciate their generosity,” said Tara Kelly, vice president, Monmouth Medical Center Foundation, in a press release.
