Middle school students in grades 6-8 across Middlesex County are invited to participate in the Coalition for Healthy Communities’ sixth annual Be Smart About Medicine Creative Expression Contest. The program is designed to increase awareness of prescription-drug and over-the-counter-drug abuse.
Deadline for entries is Feb. 6. A panel of judges will review the submissions and select first-, second- and third-place winners from each grade.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), prescription and over-the-counter drugs are the most commonly abused substances, after marijuana and alcohol, by Americans ages 14 and older. The Coalition for Healthy Communities is an initiative of the Wellspring Center for Prevention.
